c) Garden Collection Classes Below
1) A collection of 3 plate with different
Vegetables
2) A collection of 4 plate with different
Vegetables
3) A collection of 5 plate with different
Vegetables
· Vegetables in a collection exhibit must be of different species (kinds). Collection exhibits can include members from the different species, but not from within a species. For example if you show a pumpkin (C. pepo) you could not show an acorn squash (C. pepo). You could however combine and show a pumpkin and butternut squash (C. moschata).
· In all three classes a display of garden flowers is optional. The display of not less than three varieties of garden flowers in one container, taken from those grown in your garden this year. Attractive flower displays should have flowers in different heights, colors that harmonize and varieties that stay nice for several days. (Shade tolerant types do best) No Silk or Artificial foliages may be used to exhibit.
· Garden collection entries must be labeled with common name, latin name, and variety when appropriate.
· The vegetables in all three classes must be selected from the single vegetable list (on page 17 of this book)
d) Garden Educational Exhibit
· Four plates containing two varieties of two different kinds of vegetable in your garden. For example: Display Rutgers & Roma Tomatoes on two plates and Melody & American Spinach on two plates. Label your varieties.
· Label and exhibit three unusual vegetables (may or may not be discussed in your 4-H Garden Manuel) you grew in your garden this year. If not listed in the single vegetable class table, check with the Project Superintendent. E.g. spaghetti squash, head lettuce, cowpea, etc.
