Ripley County Commissioners wish to express their gratitude to Rising Sun Regional Foundation for their generosity in awarding grant monies to the Ripley County Highway Garage. Over the past few years the Ripley County Highway Garage has received over $300,000 for highway equipment that may otherwise have not been acquired.

COMMON ITEMS ACCEPTED

Paper Products

  • Corrugated Cardboard-Please break down and flatter boxes
  • Newspaper & Magazines-Please keep dry
  • Mixed Paper-Office paper, computer paper, mail and paperboard

Plastic Bottles * Please remove lids and rinse

  • PETE or #1 Bottles-Soft drink bottles, mouthwash and alcohol bottles
  • HDPE or #2 Bottles and Jugs-Milk jugs, juice jugs, detergent bottles, etc.  No chemical, motor oil, peanut butter or margarine containers accepted  No wide-mouth containers accepted

Aluminum & Glass * Please rinse

  • Aluminum and Steel Cans-Beverage, food or coffee cans.  No foil or pie tins accepted
  • Glass Bottles and Jars-Clear, green/blue and brown glass

Scrap Metal & Batteries

  • Scrap Metal-Washer & dryer, bicycles, water heaters, lawn mowers, etc.  No fuel cylinders, fuel tanks, drums or fencing material.
  • Car Batteries-Must not be cracked and must have caps on cells.
  • Rechargeable and Alkaline Batteries-Batteries from power tools, laptops, digital cameras, flashlights and radios

  • Light truck tires-$2 off rim, $4 on rim
  • Semi truck tires-$6 off rim, $12 on rim
  • Super single truck tires-$8 off rim, $16 on rim
  • Small tractor tires-$3 off rim, $6 on rim
  • Large tractor and loader tires-$13.60 off rim, $27.20 on rim
Refrigerant Appliances
  • Refrigerators and freezers
  • Air conditioners
  • Dehumidifiers
  • $10 recycling fee
  • Please remove all food, liquids and air out

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS
  • This facility is designed for and accepts only household products.  No commercial or institution material accepted.
  • Please find an attendant if you have brought tires, appliances, or if you need help.
  • Do not leave items at the gate after the facility has closed.
  • Please remove all lids from containers and rinse them thoroughly prior to taking to recycling center.
  • Please keep paper products dry and separated.
  • Remove all mud, water or debris from tires.
  • No latex-based paints or household hazardous waste accepted.  These include cleaning products, detergents, pesticides, herbicides, etc.
  • Do not leave materials that are not on the list or that have not been properly prepared.
  • Fees apply to some recyclable items
  • Please call 812-689-4720 with any questions concerning items not listed.

                    You can shop for items: Tuesday and Thursday 8 am-2 pm Saturday 8 am-11 am

This facility is provided for the citizens of Ripley County to share/swap/exchange items that are in good condition/working order. Please help by following these simple rules.

  • Leave reusable items only.  No trash, broken or ripped items.
  • Shopping is limited to one time per week.
  • Limit shopping time to 20 minutes-no loitering
  • Items taken are not to be sold
  • Limit of 4 items per person except clothing
  • Limit of 5 books
  • Please show attendant items that you intend to leave on site
  • The attendant has the right to refuse any items determined to be substandard
  • The attendant hast he right to distribute items at his/her discretion

  • Items that are potentially hazardous because of flaws or faults
