Unapproved Commissioner's Meeting Minutes for June 4, 2007
June 4, 2007
The Ripley County Commissioners met on Monday, June 4th, 2007 at the Ripley County Annex, Versailles, Indiana.
Commissioner Reiners promptly called the meeting to order at 8:00A.M. All stood for the opening pledge to the flag.
Robert Reiners, Chuck Folz and Lawrence Nickell were in attendance.
Amber May, 2nd Deputy Auditor took minutes for the Commissioners due to Auditor McCoy’s absence.
Neil Comer, County Attorney was present to advise the Commissioners on legal matters.
John Lohrum, Maintenance advised the commissioners that Probation is having to come in each weekend to empty the dehumidifier and wondered if he could put a line through the wall to take care of this problem. Lohrum advised that he had cut the trees at EMS, replaced the light on outside of the courthouse, and trimmed the tree on corner of square and waiting on rain to cut the grass.
Commissioners are planning on attending the Association of County Commissioner’s Spring District Meeting on June 26th at Beltarra, Switzerland County.
Kelly Vollet, Technology advised the commissioners that the quote for the Assessor’s copier is $586.14 higher than quoted. Commissioner Folz made a motion to amend the 1st motion of $3,241.15 payment from Riverboat Equipment for the Assessor’s copier seconded Commissioner Folz. Motion approved unanimously. Commissioner Folz made a motion to pay $3,827.29 for the Assessor’s new copier seconded by Commissioner Nickell. Motion approved unanimously.
Commissioner Nickell made a motion to approve the minutes from the May 21st meeting seconded by Commissioner Folz. Motion approved unanimously.
Tad Brinson, Area Planning Commission & Steve Meyer, Building Inspector advised that they had done inspections on some building in Elrod. Brinson reported that the owners will be coming in to see what is needed to be done with the buildings. Brinson reported to the commissioners that per the state (Homeland Security) all government buildings should have one entrance for security reasons. Commissioners will ask Attorney Comer about this situation.
Commissioner Nickell made a motion to approve the claims seconded by Commissioner Folz. Motion approved unanimously.
Owen Heaton, Highway Department Superintendent advised that the Busching Bridge is insured for $410,000 for replacement cost and $240,000 on the Otter Creek Bridge.
Shannon Schmaltz, Chief Probation Officer, reported to the commissioners that one of his doors has a low clearance and that Tracy Rohlfing had hit his head and was knocked to the floor.
Tad Brinson, Area Planning, reported that Mike Jeffries had two pay periods in one for mileage and wondered if the state had changed the rate for mileage.
Attorney Comer advised that the Homeland Security can not mandate 1 (one) entrance for the government buildings and that it is a recommendation only.
Commissioners signed the Petition for Establishment of Regional Water District in Decatur County, Ripley County and Jennings County, Indiana.
Commissioners signed the Grant Agreement and Receipt between The City of Rising Sun and Ripley County.
Auditor McCoy called the commissioners to advise them that if the Commissioners would join the National Association of Counties for the year that would entitle the county to have free prescription cards available for all county residents without health insurance, giving a deduction on their prescriptions. Commissioners would like for someone to come and explain the program to them at a meeting.
Mark Klosterkemper, AECON, INC reported that Brad Samples, Main source had reduced the insurance premium for Bridge# 46. Klosterkemper report that both covered bridges had been inspected and that the Otter Creek Bridge has some bad boards on the deck of the bridge. Fire retardant treatment was done appropriately 15 years ago on both covered bridges. Klosterkemper will check to see what the fire retardant life expectancy is for the fire retardant.
Kerry Langdon, ENGEL Maps, Inc & Katherine Taul, Executive Director of Tourism presented a copy of the new map book cover for the commissioner’s approval. Commissioners asked that they reduce the writing on the left side of the cover to be able to see more of the court house. Commissioners agreed on the cover picture of the Ripley County Court for the book maps. Commissioners agreed on 5,000 maps and will sell each map book for $3.00 each.
Commissioner Nickell made a motion to adjourn until the next regular meeting on Monday, June 18th, 2007 @ 8:00A.M. at the Ripley County Annex, Versailles, Indiana seconded by Commissioner Folz. Motion approved unanimously.
